I can't stand it any longer I have to try silk on a light fly rod. Has any one used Perma Gloss on silk? How did it work? Any tips? Re: Perma Gloss on silk?

I do a lot of rods in silk and I always set my feathers with permagloss and I put the first coat on the guides with permagloss. Works great. I use the permagloss because it is watery and seeps into the guides and all around the foot of the guide. Really seals that off. Then I cut the fine silk sash that is almost always there with a razor blade, then I coat with a thin coat of LS Supreme to finish the guides. Makes for a very thin coat and looks almost like there is no epoxy there at all. Very thin and clean. See ya Terry Re: Perma Gloss on silk?

Why use permagloss? Spar varnish ( McCloskey's Man-of-War, red can) works great. Re: Perma Gloss on silk?

I agree with Steve -- a good quality spar varnish (e.g Sutherland Welles) is arguably the best finish for silk and will yield beautiful translucent wraps. An alternative is to use Varathane or Defthane (polyurethanes), both of which give good results. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
