My favorite would be either solid black or solid white. But, I would guess that gloss or matte charcoal (natural) is the best selling of all time. Not so much as that is what the builders asked for, but rather that is what the makers offered.

I doubt it makes too much difference to the fish, although many years ago I marketed a line of camofluaged rods. One was painted green/tan/black for stream fishing and one was done in light blue/white for saltwater fishing. At least one major fly rod company copied my idea and is presently offering a stream camo rod. It's a neat idea, but I would hesitate to say it will put more fish on the end of your line. It won't hurt, however.

I asked that question not long ago, I dint get any responses. It looks like Green and then black i think are the two most popular colors

Ive built 3 rods to date and all have been a dark green.Seems like many of the better rod and blank manufacturers (G loomis excluded ,Black only)have dark green blanks in there lineup, St croix offers a spruce matte green , Which I dont care for in the legend series.

Most Orvis rods are green, many winston rods are green Sage has dark green rods , LL beans ... My self Im tired of green flyrods with gold trim so I painted a matte grey blank sort of an eggplant blue purple color and will wrap it in a dark blue silk with pewter metalic trim.

Happy wrapping "John".

A favorite of ours is srpruce green in the matte finish.
Also, the satin black finish of St. Croix graphite SCIII I probably like the best.
I guess mentioning brand names can't be alleviated here, but the Shikari clear gloss showing the natural charcoal graphite color is also a favorite.

As for the choice in white blanks, I tend to associate that more with saltwater blanks, as also the gloss black.

Tom, those white rods do take cool pictures though. I am sure some are associated with 'fish stories'?

just my opinion.

I see No one Mentioned BLUE / DARK BLUE / DEEP SEA BLUE or similar. I agree CHARCOAL is one or "the" most popular colours.-
Is there any reason, like no "MAJOR" manufactures "paint" their blanks this colour?
THANKS to ALL that HELPED !

The Thomas & Thomas standard color is color is a deep blue Im not sure but I think Scott has a blue blank and orvis offers blue in salt water rods.

I like the deep Blue for light flyrods Thats why I painted a charcol matte blank An eggplant blue /purple color.

How about a cobalt blue similar to #50 Gudebrod thread. Picture it with white NCP wraps and #50 cobalt single inlays.
