Finnished doing a closed wrap fish design. When I applied the CP, it was like the threads just melted. They started to stretch out of shape even though I thightened the pattern before applying CP. Whats the problem, an cure for it! Re: CP-Thread problem

Threads tend to swell when hit with a liquid. This is particularly bad with the NCP variety. There are some things you can do to minimize this. Many rod builders, upon completing of their wrap, will "tack" down the center points with just a drop or two of CP. Others simply go a bit easy on the application of CP, and after the first rely on a second much heavier application to seal out any chance of epoxy penetrating the threads and turning them dark. .................... You might also try in the future reducing the ammount of tension used on the wrapping threads,it seems the greater the tension the more problems encounted when CP is used. John My 3 part method....

....learned the hard way. This may be way on the overkill side but after loosing a 4 hour wrap I started applying the CP as follows: First, I tack down every intersection in the wrap with one small drop of lightly thinned CP and let them dry completely. I don't let the brush touch the thread, just let the drop kinda fall onto it. When this dries, it tends to stop the rest of wrap threads from wanting to loosen or pull out. Then I apply 1 thinned CP coat to the tie off wraps and let it dry. This does essentially the same thing as above. I then apply 2 coats to the whole wrap. If I see a little loosening I resist messing with it. I have found that trying to repair wet thread makes the situation worse. Usually when the CP dries it will tend to pull the thread back down and in place. JMHO Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
