I'm presently stripping down 2 rods which have been badly chipped by much use. The original coating seems to be quite thick. It is coming off well with the use of 600 grit sand paper. The new guides will be placed at different locations than the old ones and the blank is definitely different colors.(seems to have faded in some stops). I was thinking of coating the blank again prior to wrapping but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what might work best. Thanks in advance, Kevin Re: rod refinishing SEE MY POST ABOVE

Hi Kevin, Check out my post on "great paint to color a blank". I think this Createx product will make coloring a rod much easier than some of the other methods. Using this airbrush paint is a two step process but the airbrush paint will dry in less than an hour then you can cover with clear or poly. (the paint dried on my experiment blank in 25 min.) Also with the fine matte finish of the airbrush paint the polyurethane goes on nice and even, vs puddling and sliding on the slick blank surface. I suppose the airbrush paint is actually acting as a primer for the clear topcoat or polyurethane. As for your blank I think you would be better off using a mild stripper instead of sanding. sanding can damage a blank . I damaged my first rod I built by trying to sand off some finish that went on wrong. HAPPY WRAPPING "John" Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
