OK , I have been at this for a year now and built around two dozen spinning rods for friends , myself and even a few strangers. Now I am embarking on a new adventure and going more serious this year. I am building a few heavy rods and want to use the spiral wrap and would like to know if concept guide placement is a good idea for this style. Thanks in advance Mark Schulte Re: Concept guide placement and spiral wrap

I don't know what you mean by "concept guide placement" exactly. As far as casting type rods go, the concept is pretty much just a matter of getting down to your running guides quickly and using a few more, albeit lower framed guides. The spiral wrap eliminates most of the problems associated with convention casting guide set up. Having the line on the bottom of the rod negates the line coming into contact with the blank under load. Stability is automatic. I would still use low frame guides for the 180 degree running guides. ................. Re: Concept guide placement and spiral wrap

Just to add, I use double foot guides for the first three, then a single foot to complete the turn and single foots the rest of the way out. I just built a honey of a rod. Baitcaster, IMX 6 ft. with spiral wrap. I used SIC guides as follows. #12 dbl, 2-#10dbl, 1 #8 sgl (this completed the turn) then #6s the rest of the way out. I could have gone either way on the #8sgl (tried a #10sgl, then an #8 on to #6s the rest of the way out) but decided on the #8 simply because a little lighter and gets the line to the blank quicker without ill effects. Couldn't tell a difference in casting or stress though. This is the best performing rod I have ever used. My customer who fishes the BASS circuit agrees. He has ordered two more just like it.'
