Hi! Here is another question about converting fly blank into a spinning rod. I want to build a 9'6" light spinning rod with lure weight 2-12 grams. The action I need is fast to moderate-fast. Could you please give me recommendations on the fly blank line weight that will be equivalent to the upper limit of the above lure weight. Can I expect such fly blank be of at least moderate-fast action? I heard that fly blanks tend to be slow when you make a spinning rod on them. May be the whole thing is not worth doing it and I should look for the appropriate spinning blank? I do not want to spend my money in vain. Thanks a lot, Dennis Re: Converting fly blank into a spinning rod

Making a spinning rod on a fly rod blank will not change its action. Action is inherent and will be whatever it is, regardless of what you use it for. Make the fly line number your numerator and 16 your denominator. That gives you the approximate casting weight the blank will handle. A 5-weight fly rod blank, for example, would cast a lure of about 5/16th ounce. ................. Re: Converting fly blank into a spinning rod

Pacific Bay, Rainforest, RFF905. It has a med fast action. This is a two piece rod at a very reasonable price. The Pac Bay Professional Series in 9 to 91/2 foot would be ideal but is more expensive. Why did you specify 9 ft 6 in? Re: Converting fly blank into a spinning rod

Tom, Thank you for the information. It will help a lot. Bill, I want it to be that long so that to achieve longer casts as I plan to fish from the river or lake bank, not from boat. Longer rod will enable more control of the lure's "root" during retrieval of the line. And I am simply more used to fishing with long rods. Well I think that 9 ft will also be enough and maybe even 8'6". But anyway I did not come over spinning blanks of at least 8'6" , fast action and 2-12 gr lure weight.
