flyrod blank for spinning rod?

I recently acquired 2 GLoomis GL3-F1088 blanks, at a really good price. One has already been built into a really nice casting flyrod, that I am hoping to get into some winter steelhead with soon. I was considering building the other into a spinning rod, also for steelhead, for fishing small spoons/spinners, and light drift gear. What weight mono would work well with this fast action, 8 wt. blank? Thanks,
Greg Pennell

That blank is rated to throw about 3/8 to 1/2 ounces of weight. I would say maybe 10 to 20 lb test?

Let me drop that down a bit. Let's say more like 8 to 15lb test.

IMHO, I wouldn't hang in the neighborhood of 6-12#. Don't want the line to overwhelm the rod.

An 8 weight rod is a fairly powerful stick. Many people use 12 to 16 lb tippets when using them in the salt. I'd think a line in the 10, 12 or 14lb range would be about right.

All the answers were correct just remember that fly rods are slow action rod

Thanks, guys. I looked at the comparable blanks in the ST series, and had pretty much come to the same conclusion. I was hoping to use 8-12 pound test line on the rod, mostly for summer run steelhead here in Washington. I think it'll work out great! Merry Christmas!
Greg
