Printing My Own Decals

I have purchased some decal paper (inkjet) from Decal Connection and my plan is to create a decal on my computer and print it out on the decal paper. I have tried this already and it came out real good. The script and colors are what I wanted. Now all I have to do is spray the decal with a fixatif and then apply it to the rod and then epoxe over it.Does any one see any problems with this procedure? Any thing additional I need to do? Bottom line is , will this work? Thanks again for your help.

You sound like you're on the right track. I use Krylon 1311 Matte Finish to cover and seal the decals. Two or three quick coats does the trick.

Tom,

Sure it works.......to a point. If you put your inkjet decal on a dark background (such as a black or gray blank) it won't show. The inkjet inks are too translucent. If you make a light colored wrap for a background, paint on a light color, or use a white or yellow blank (or any other light color you can get), then they look perfect.

Make one up and put it on the butt of one of your regular blanks and see what I mean.

I am assuming your using clear decal paper. If you use the white decal paper, you can do it however you want, but you will have the white background or whatever color your print it to.

I agree with Ray- inkjet colors are too translucent. I tried using clear decal paper with yellow writing on a St. Cvoix SCIV, and I couldn't see the print on the rod. Mike's gold or silver metallic decals wound up being the route I took. I wish my printer could do those colors!
