Re-wrapping a rod

I have a rod I built for myself that I want to re-wrap with Spiral guide placement. The other day I cut a guide off of a finished rod, and it seems to me like the epoxy "melded' with the blanks finish, and the gloss of the rod is gone from that spot. I did clean off all the epoxy with my fingernail, but I can sort of feel ridges probably from where the epoxy sat in between the threads. My question is this - I will place the guides in a different spot than where they were before - what do I do with this ugly mess left over from the prior guide?? Do I have to sand and coat the whole rod with Permagloss? Thanks for any help provided, Billy Re: Re-wrapping a rod

Hey Billy, I would wet sand progressively, 400-600 grit, the entire blank then use Gudebrod 840 rodfinish or Permagloss to refinish. This has worked for me rebuilding old Roddys, Sabres and Trulines whose older finishes are succeptable the wrap/finish "meld". Jim Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
