Finishing Smooth Butt Wraps

I am still working on my first butt wrap--a diamond pattern. The diamond part looks good and I'm now trying to do a basic wrap over the ends of the diamond portion so I can hold the threads down and finish the butt wrap. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make an even transition from the somewhat bulky diamond wrap down to the smooth blank. The diamond wrap itself is not too bulky, but while I was doing the pattern I bunched up the thread on the outside of the diamond pattern as I switched threads and worked back over the wrap. Can anyone offer suggestions for how I can achieve a smooth transition? If I try to cut a little thread from the bulk as I go, I end up getting smaller threads bumps that show through wrap. I've thought about perhaps doing another basic wrap directly over the first wrap to kind of smooth out the bumps, but I'm not sure that is the best solution. I've never seen anyone do a butt wrap so I'm not sure about the right technique, but there must be a better way to work the thread back into the pattern as I work on the wrap. If I can avoid bunching it up as I go, I'm sure finishing the wrap will be much easier. Re: Finishing Smooth Butt Wraps

I showed how to do this in my book and it was discussed, along with some other excellent suggestions, within the past week on this very board. If you do a search or just scroll down and back a page or two you should find it. ............ Try this

You know I glanced at that post before I started my own butt wrap, but I didn't quite understand it. It makes perfect sense now that I'm actually doing this. Thanks Tom. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
