What to use for refinishing?

Well you all have convinced me to go ahead and refinish an older blank. Now I've had several recommendations on what product to use. Outside of ordering something, about the only thing I have available to me here would be Minwax® Helmsman® Spar Urethane which is an exterior grade product. Will this work?? What other recommendations do you all have? Thanks!

It will work. Saturate a cloth or sponge and wipe it on the blank. Takes about 2 or 3 coats a few hours between each.

Don't expect a perfect factory-like finish. I'd suggest testing it on a junk blank first and/or using a matte finish urethane to hide mistakes.

I just finished refinishing a blank with standard run of the mill Minwax polyurethane. The blank came out pretty good. I wiped it on as previously suggested and hung the blank to dry. I think the key to getting a good finihs is have a smooth balnk to work with. I scraped all the old finsih off with a razor blad held at 90 degrees to the blank then VERY LIGHTLY sanded with 2000 grit wet/dry. After wiping of the dust I applied the finish. 3 coats seems to be sufficient.

You don't have to go that fine a paper. 600-800 will work fine. Permagloss is a harder finish. As hard as a rock the next day. Nice to wrap over

Your probably right about the sandpaper grit,I just had the 2000 left over from something else and decided it couldn't hurt.
