Line Slap

I just started making fishing rods, and have run into a huge problem with line slap. A while back I bought a 7 foot Rouge blank with a fast tip at a seminar. The rod is being built as a spinning rod to be used with 8 pound flurocarbon and a new Penn Slammer 360. The problem is not on cast, but on retrieval. I have used every guide from a low frame to high frame to stop the slap, and have put anywhere between 6 and 12 guides on the rod. I have even put different reels on the rod but have recieved the same results. I am not really sure what to do, so if any of you all have any helpful hints they would be greatly appreciated. Jason, It could be the flurocarbon line causing slap. Try it with 8* mono or 10* Power Pro. You can always put on a flurocarbon leader. Stan Re: Line Slap

Hopefully this will explain and fix your problem, the first problem may be the way your bringing in the line, if it's not under enough tension it will slap the blank on a fast retrieve, every rod I've built or bought will. The line your using is also denser in weight & stiffer than mono and this will contribute also to slap. As long as you have no slap when you cast I think you'll be ok. Re: Line Slap

The stiffness of fluorocarbon compared to other lines makes it a poor choice for spinning reels. Use a soft monofilament or braided line and fluorocarbon for the leader. Are you test casting into water? That will help you evaluate performance on the retrieve. Re: Line Slap

I've built lots of 7' Rogue spinning rods, and have the same problem. I'm sure it's the fluorocarbon line. I'm using 8-10 pound Seaguar. When I switch to 8 pound mono, the problem goes away. Also, I've been using Alconite concept guides as follows: BYAG 20, BYAG 12, BYAG 8L, BLAG 7, and 3 BLAG 6. Re: Line Slap

Thanks to you all for your recommendations, after I thought about it I never actually tried any line other that flurocarbon. So what I did was put 20 pound, 6 pound diameter Power Pro on it and IT WORKED!! I got almost no line slap on retrieve and it casts 45 yards which is 135 feet. That stuff is amazing. Thanks for all who replied. Jason Lockwood Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
