Trial and error Wrap some line on a blanck and see if you like it. If it is not a npc thread add a drop of denatured alcohal to the wrap and this well show you what it should look like with a finish.

I've been struggling with color schemes on this blank that I really like. The garnet and gold I've done, its ok but I'm still searching. About the best I've come up with that I like is to use purple nylon with no cp. Before you laugh, wrap a little on and wet it with alcohol and you'll see what I mean. It goes much darker than the purple, but is a few shades above black.

If you are having trouble with matching colors and blanks, go to an art supply store and ask for a color matching wheel. The wheel turns and will give you a rainbow of colors that you can match up against others. It also lets you know what colors are complementary, etc. It is designed with artists in mind who need to do this all the time. I believe it matches with the Pantone system, a color numbering system universal to all artists.
