Having Googled Generation 4 rod wrapping thread and coming up with only results for the thread finish, I assume that's what you're asking about. I've used the high build on 4 of the last 5 rods I've built, and I love it !!!

Great clarity, although the other finishes I've used have had great clarity as well..... It's a bit thinner than other high builds I've used, such as Flex Coat Ultra UV, or LS Supreme, so it flows better. Bubble release is outstanding. The first thing I do when applying finish is to apply finish to the tops and sides of all my guide feet, and it soaks into regular nylon thread, extremely well.

A bit longer pot life than either Flex Coat Ultra UV, or LS Supreme. But a bi product of the longer pot life means it takes a bit longer before it's tack free. It also seems to take a little longer to totally cure. I've used rods coated with Flex Coat and LS Supreme 24 hours after having coated the wraps. I'm not sure I'd do that with Gen 4. It still feels a little soft after 24 hours, so I've waited a full 48 hours before using a rod that I've used Gen 4 on.

As far as yellowing in the bottle. of course it's hard to judge because you can't be sure of how old the finish is when you receive it, but so far, it's about like Flex Coat in the respect that it doesn't yellow in the bottle quickly. I can't say the same about the LS Supreme I've used in the past. That stuff seems to yellow in the bottle rather quickly. But like I said .... that could be due to the age of the product before receiving and using it.

After saying all that, I just placed an order with Mud Hole for more Gen 4 high build. I'll be using it from now on. It's really really good stuff.

I am now using Gen 4 Low Build and find it is a very good thread finish. As David states, bubble release and leveling are very good. I don't find the pot life of any finish to be an issue except for ProKote which has a very long set time which can be problematic.

I have used Flex Coat lite for many years, too, and find it works well, too.

I think the biggest factor in the successful use of most thread finish epoxies is using the proper method. The differences are usually not that great.

I've used Prokote, Flexcoat High Build and HB UV, and Gen 4. All do the job. I like the bubble release with Gen 4 and I generally don't have to mess with any heat while applying it to get a good end product. With Flexcoat I use some quick heat after application for bubble release.

So yes I like both FlexCoat and Gen 4. Most of my builds lately have been using Gen 4

It is a quality product. As are the other top epoxy offerings.

Epoxy finishes come and go. Flex Coat remains my go-to product because they've been around for decades and will likely be around for more decades. They are also a sponsor of this site.

I have used several different epoxy's throughout the years. They all have been good and generally not hard to work with, however, I really like the Gen 4 products. I've used the High Build and the Light Build. I've even put a cote of Light Build over 2 coats of High Build to see how it would work and it worked great, without any issues. Over kill? possibly, but wanted to experiment. The Gen 4 mixes very well and has a good pot life and levels out well. Very good product.
