Hello there,
I'm building a light saltwater spinning rod (mainly popping, 40 lb line) to be coupled with a 4000/5000 size Shimano reel. To achieve a better reel "tightening" there are basically two options: 1. standard reel seat nut + assist nut metal ring 2. long-nut reel seat I'm wondering which one is better for the purpose... The long nut has more threads. IMHO, it offers better, stronger engagement and less chance of deforming the nut from over tightening. Adding a secondary locking nut is a bit overkill with it, but it will completely prevent accidental loosening. You will need the extension sleeve if you need to wind the locking nut or main nut off the threads.
I use the long nut and DPSM in size 20 for those sizes you mention. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
