It has many many years sinse I made a rod. I had a red piece of glass and I used yellow and red wrap. It looked real good. When I put on the epoxy coat the red came through the yellow and made it look orangey not very nice. Is there a way to prevent that? Thanks

If you are using threads designed for rod building, color preservative will work very well. Also, there are threads that already are treated to prevent color shifts. If you are using threads not designed for rod building I'm not sure what you can do. I tried a rayon thread one time and even color preservative did not work on it.

The thread is very old but I'm sure it was guide thread. I will try color preservative. Thanks

When epoxy is put on regular nylon thread the thread will darken and become translucent. So it’s not surprising that yellow tread on top of red will appear orange when epoxy is applied. In order to prevent this bleed through, use either color preserver or NoCP thread.

Thank you that is exactly what happened. the epoxy turned the thread translucent. I have a few spools of thread that are bi-color alternateing back and forth I have had them many years. I do not see any thing like them on the market today? I think they provide a unique look. I will give the CP a try in the hope I can use this thread for my rod. Thanks to all

Apply a good wet coat of the CP to the thread. The threads will turn dark and brighten close to original as the CP dries. You don't necessarily need two coats, but it won't hurt anything if you do use two.
