I''m just some glueing away from being ready to order and attach guides on 3 fly rods I'm building. I'm building a #4 9 foot, a #5 9.6 foot and a #6 9.6 foot.
I think I will be using size Seymo single leg 1/0 (OD 5.7 ID 4.3) running guides on the #4 rod and size 1 (OD 6.5 ID 5.0) running guides on the #5 and #6. For stripper I will be using Torzite LKWTG. Maybe a size 8 for the #4 and a size 10 for the #5 and #6. Between the stripper and small running guides I'm thinking of using another Torzite LKWTG in a smaller size for the transition. How many guides would you use and are there any good charts for guide placement on my rods? All I know is that I probably will put the stripping guide 32 inches from the butt, and the first guide about 4 inches behind the tiptop ring. Re: Guides and placement of guides on fly rods

I would advise using about 1 guide per foot of rod length, plus one. This does not include the tiptop.

So 9 single leg guides + 2 Torzite "strippers" for a 9.6 foot rod and 8 + 2 for a 9 foot rod? Re: Guides and placement of guides on fly rods

I would use 10 guides on a 9 foot rod, plus tiptop. You could possibly do it with 9 but 11 would likely be overkill.
There is only one stripping guide on a fly rod (the first one past the reel) and I count that in the total number of guides. ........ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
