Painting your workbench?

Hi Folks.

After a move to a different state I am just getting my dream rod-building workbench together. Got it almost finished today. Its a little over 12 feet long (I do a lot of surf rods) and as it sits tonight it the tabletop part is unpainted plywood.

The thought entered my mind that rather than leave it bare wood, why not paint it so objects will pop out in contract when you drop them. Like with white enamel.

Has anyone considered this and/or executed against this idea?

Any comments or thoughts appreciated!

I used a soft pastel green. Easy on the eyes but offers good contrast.

White laminate on mine. My eyesight is not good and I need all the brightness I can get. Thinking of painting my wrapper white too.

Phillip,
A rod building work bench is really easy to build.

Simply make a frame, and then go to your local big box store and purchase a section of kitchen counter top with a molded in back splash to keep things from rolling off the back of the bench.
Wtih a white laminate finish, it makes the perfect - tough rod building bench.

From time to time - I use the bench for purposes - other than rod building. i.e. some assembly and some constructiton work. As a result - when doing that work I have a piece of plywood in a convenient size to do that sort of work, and by its use - protects the bench top itself from damage and or markings.

I have a white Formica laminate worktable. The white shows everything and it is easy to clean up finish and glue drips and spills.

Pre-molded kitchen counter top. epoxy is easy to chip up after set. Front edge raises slightly with rounder edge. comes in many colors. built mine in late 90's still like new.
