I just finished wrapping a blank with silk thread for a transparent wrap. I'd normally use Flex Coat Light thinned a bit, but I have been using more and more Permaglos and I'm wondering if that would also result in a transparent wrap. Has anyone tried this? Hoping to not have to do a test run. Re: Permaglos for transparent wraps

PG sets fast. I doubt it will work. You could try one sample wrap and find out.

I have done it and on lighter fly rods the snakes [light Snake Brand] were no real problem. The strippers however were. Totally clear wraps without bubbles on the strippers worked when I ran a single thread of 30 or 50 weight silk around the full perimeter of the stripper feet to minimize the tunnels and allow better wicking. All natural undyed white silk thread wraps were 100wt with 30wt or 50wt on perimeter of strippers under the 100wt. Wrapped with light tension, burnished lightly and washed hands well before wrapping to keep body oils off.
Fully dried India ink for signature/information under clear wraps worked well with the PG not affecting the ink. And yes, , , lots of sample wraps and screwups to figure out the stripper issues. Re: Permaglos for transparent wraps

My PG wraps were not as translucent as epoxy wraps. Re: Permaglos for transparent wraps

I chickened out and just used Flex Coat light, which I diluted a little to make it even lighter. Two coats and the wraps disappeared completely, which is what I was going for. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
