Hope I'm not asking a silly questions but I'm considering using a varigated thread for my next fly rod build. I've looked around the world wide internet :) and didn't see a lot that pertains to wrapping with it.
Are there any unusual considerations when wrapping with varigated threads? Thx! Re: Wrapping with Varigated Thread

Thread is thread. Wrap it just like you do any single color thread.

I’ve only used them once. They are more sensitive to varying tension in how they look. With at least some hand wrappers, even tension can be a bit problematic. They can also look different in pattern as rod diameter changes. Re: Wrapping with Varigated Thread

Thx Kendall. That's exactly what I was thinking. Considering the pattern on the spool if probably somewhat consistient, changes in blank diameter may make the graduations look different. Like anytihng else, I'll test wrap the heck out of it before deciding to continue. Re: Wrapping with Varigated Thread

Hello Jeffrey.
It's not pretty but it's all I got. See how the bars get thinner as the diameter gets smaller? [www.rodbuilding.org] Hope this helps. Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
