Clemens Rod Collection

Today I viewed the Dale Clemens custom rod and sample collection owned by his family. In addition to about a dozen rods there were also some hand-sewn bags by Dale's wife that housed all the wrap samples he did for his Custom Thread Art book. Very interesting history. The entire collection will be exhibited at the upcoming Expo in a few weeks.

Wow,

His first book was the reason I started building rods. I joined a "book of the month" club back in the middle '70s and this was one of the books I received. I was fascinated. I have been fishing since I was 5. My Dad taught all of us how to fish and we loved it. I was in Grad School at the time and reading this book was a source of solace after a day or two of studying. I was a young Captain in the AF at the time with a family and not a lot of expendable income. But I did have a few old rods that would benefit from new wraps on the guides. So that's how I started building, by re-wrapping the guides on an old spinning rod. I still have that rod and the wraps are still just fine.
