Spade bits for making reverse cutting bits are available in a wider variety of sizes than most realize. I have never had any issue matching a bit to nearly any size seat hood I needed to recess.There is also a little trick for making tiny adjustments if necessary, which is covered in the article.

To follow up since I saw another thread about inletting.

I am happy with the results of the "flex coat" method I linked above, of using a spade bit, cork ring holder and drill press to inlet a single cork ring. I did drill a couple off center holes before I managed a keeper. Although I think the reject cork rings were close enough to be turned round.

I looked thru the sponsors websites to the left and couldn't find any of them selling counterbores. A quick search turns up multiple online suppliers at a substantial savings to flyrodcrafters...

I havent tried the counterbores yet, but I imagine they would make it easier to get a centered hole with just a hand held drill...
