7wt single foot guides

Hey guys,

I’ll be building a 7wt in the coming weeks and wanted to use single foot recoil wire guides for runners. I know the only way to know what the smallest size I could use is to mock them up on the blank and run line through to see if it will pass but I was just curious if anyone can tell me if they have built a rod of the same size or larger and ran size 3 single foots for runners and been okay? I don’t have the blank yet but have a lot of hardware on hand and was just curious.

It will be used mostly for warm freshwater fishing but wanted to build it to be able to double down as an occasional inshore rod.

Al,
You can get away with #2 runners on a 7wt.
But the difference in weight between the #2 and #3 is so small - I would use the 3's

Just to clarify, you could do #2 single foot guides on a 7wt? I would be scared to go that low haha

3 is fine, but 2 is OK. I have used double foot size 2 Recoils on an 8wt and it was just fine. Not sure of the diameter difference between single and double foot (snake type). And you want the Recoils with an X in the number, as you don't want the lightweight guides.

I think either would work, Sage 7 wt. XP ran #1 snakes with zero problems, my 6 wt. GLX has had #1 SF guides since 1990's no problems.

Does anyone know where to find the diameters of the REC single foot guides?

Abe,

I did get the inter diameter by emailing REC support.

If you have any trouble let me know and I’ll send them. I just finish getting all the weights and ID on the Titan Titanium, and it’s nice as the Seaguide catalog and website gives the information.

I could post the information if people would like.
