Hi folks, Reading a lot about Point Blank blanks here and am very intrigued by their high quality and reported unique castability. Looking to make up a spinning rod for total lure weight 1/8 - 3/8 oz, using 10 or 15 lb braid primarily and 2500 or 3000 reels. Looking at the PB701MLF or PB701MF and wondering, based on your experience/usage, which may be the better choice?
Certainly also want to compare to my recent NFC builds. Additionally do you prefer the 7' or 7'3" model? And are there any current or anticipated black Friday deals on these blanks? Thank you. Re: Which Point Blank for spinning -river smallmouth?

PB701MF is one of my favorite rods. It has an ERN of about 20 which allows it to cast a wide range of lures and can handle good-sized fish well. I think the ML might be a little under-powered. I have not used the 7-3, preferring rods from 6-6 to 7-0. The PB701MF with a 3000 Daiwa Tatula is very light and well balanced. I use the same braid range you are considering.
PB's generally have very high TNF numbers, (Can't say there isn't anything out there higher, but I've not found it) and I always seem to be casting farther than my boat mates. I've used mine on everything from neds to cranks to 1/4 oz tubes and other finesse. I'm sure you will be pleased with it. Re: Which Point Blank for spinning -river smallmouth?

I like the 6"9" models in ml/xf and m/xf Re: Which Point Blank for spinning -river smallmouth?

I have used both the 6'-9" ML and 7'-3" ML as spinning builds and both have been used to catch some Great Lakes smallmouth in the 4-5# range. I would say the ML would be well suited for the types of baits you mention. Regarding length personal preference. I really like the PB blanks. Re: Which Point Blank for spinning -river smallmouth?

Good choice Ed, you will love it. Put a Daiwa LT or Pflueger (also very light) , or other very light reel, on it for a very nice outfit. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
