I would like to make a spinning rod this winter and try CF grips but I've never done CF grips before. I like the Fuji VSS 17 seat with hidden hood and the hidden hood in the front. Can you please tell me what CF grips/hoods you have used with this seat and what else I would need in the way of trim rings, etc. I do like a simple grip cosmetically.
Also if you have part numbers that would be a great help. And I wouldn't mind ordering grip parts from NFC as part of the rod blank order.

Hello, The VSS seat has a proprietary grip pattern. Only those designed for it and listed as VSS will fit. CFX makes a wonderful looking woven grip for it, but they only sell it in minimum lots of 50 to OEM’s. If you just had to have one, it looks like you re-import them from the UK at Royal International shipping rates. The SeaGuide Octa Carbon spinning seat looks really nice and takes commonly available seats. You can click the “Rodbuilders Warehouse” tab to the left and easily have it coming to your door. The Aero Carbon seat does, too. If you stay with the VSS there are some hard carbon choices that appear to also have to be internationally sourced.

Ed, Have you looked at the Fuji KDPS video on the Fuji site to the left? I think it would cover your concerns. Right at the top of the video page.

NFC sells three VSS17 carbon fiber grips.
G608 (4.25” split grip), G609 (10” grip), and G610 (12” grip). There are also a variety of CF fighting butts available for the split grip version. There are also a variety of hidden thread hood sleeves for the TVS17, KDPS17, and the KSKSS17, which will all fit the the VSS17 reel seat. So if you want a VSS17 carbon fiber handle set up you are good to go. I will buy the VSS17 reel seat without a hood and buy the hidden thread hood separately. I will epoxy polyurethane foam arbors into the reel seat and when cured ream it to fit the blank. I also ream the handle to fit the blank. I then epoxy the handle to the reel seat and finally epoxy the reel seat/handle combination to the blank. This will make sure everything fits together seamlessly.

NFC also sell IPS grips in both the regular CF and the soft touch CF. These grips have the same OD (27 mm) as the VSS17grips , but take size16 hidden thread hoods.
