NFC SB682 vs SB683?

Hi All, A friend tried my SB722 and likes it but wants a shorter version. I am looking at the SB682 and 683 but the flex profiles and line/lure weights are confusing me. These flex profiles appear to possibly be reversed for these 2 blanks as it seems like the 682 is stiffer (according to the flex picture) but has the lighter line/lure ratings. I would appreciate the help of you experienced folks, especially if you have built on these blanks, in sorting this out and to select one similar to the SB722. Thanks folks. Re: NFC SB682 vs SB683?

I just built and fished the sb683 as a bfs casting rod. Contrary to what nfc says, I found the action to be mod-fast. Nowhere close to the XF it is listed as.
I used it to cast small hard baits down to 1/8oz paired with a daiwa tatula sv tw 103 that has a shallow ported "bfs" spool in it using 15lb braid. I can cast those small hardbaits as far and as accurately as I need to without any issues. I've never handled or built the sb682, but in my experience the blanks in the same lineup with the same stated power and different lengths behave similarly. ETA: the deflection picture for the sb683 is spot on. It's a very light rod with a deep bend. IP 258 (so Light/ML power), AA 63 (mod fast) Edited 1 time(s). I did a little digging: The master blank list for NFC lists the sb682 and sb722 as versions of the same blank: Sb682 is blank 880.8 whereas sb722 is 880.86. This same naming convention pops up with the sj685 (853.8) and sj725 (853.86), the mb684 (889.8) and mb724 (889.86), as well as the sb684 (854.8) and sb722 (854.86). I'm sure it applies other places too. So if I were looking for a shorter version of the sb722, I'd definitely go with the sb682. Their deflection pics look very similar too. Re: NFC SB682 vs SB683?

How much shorter? I’ve found the SJ703 very comparable to the SB722, just 2” shorter (ignore their labelled lure weight ranges). A 6’8” rod will fish completely differently than a 7’2” rod, so what he liked about yours, he may not like if it were a 6’8” version, even if everything else about the blank/action is identical. Plug in your SB682 and the SB722 here: [www.rodhouse.fr]
You will see the blanks may have the same flex characteristic but the action is now different, with the SB682 now a medium action. I, personally, don’t think they will fish the same. Re: NFC SB682 vs SB683?

Thanks for the info folks - appreciated.
Great point John - I will get more specifics on length from him and let him know the points you made. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
