Winding checks can be reamed, but if they’re metal and colored you’ll remove that coating reveling the metal. If you’re using a silver, you won’t be able to tell. On the new Fuji TCH real seat I had to reduce the O.D. of a metal winding check to get the threaded hood onto the barrel. I used 2000 grit wet sandpaper and a silver winding check so that it isn’t noticeable. Better to order a half size larger than the diameter of the blank where you’re going to install the check. The Fuji WCS winding checks have a small tenon which fits inside of the threaded barrel portion of the reel seat. The tenon is a very tight fit, and almost snaps into place. Since they are plastic, the hole can be reamed slightly larger to fit the blank. However, I would recommend getting a size larger WC, this makes fitting a lot easier. The slightly larger hole size gives a little more room in case the reel seat is not perfectly centered. The WCS gives a very nice transition from the reel seat to the blank. There are a couple of other no fore grip winding checks which also work very well.
Batson has the rubber FBWC and the aluminum FAWC no fore grip winding checks to fit size 16 and 17 reel seats. I prefer the metal winding checks from Hydra over Batsons. I like the profile better Re: Winding checks
