Thanks for the links.
Ordered volume 21.3 for use as a reference It seems most Florida party boats are recommending 8’ rods in order to use the rail and keep the line off the boat. I did see one company advertise a SPJ rod that can use the rail for fighting. The rail and the sumo squat is helpful to us old folks. I have never fished the head boats as opposed to a 6 pack. Have a couple family trips planned and trying to get appropriate gear together. Nephews paid for the trips, so I am bringing the rods. My old grouper stick is a saber :). Tim are you saying you need ideas for south Florida grouper rods?
My advice would be a 6 pack boat to Dry Tortugas. These are the guys I used back in the 1990's. Lots of memorable trips. [www.fishandy.com] That Saber will still work fine as the rod will mostly be in the rod holder. But yes, if it is a head boat, the longer rod can come in handy working around others. Sorry for my old rambling, at least there wasn’t a cloud involved.
No on request there. Have been on a number of smaller charters, but have a scheduled multi day on a large boat with “rail” fishing. I haven’t been on one of those since before it was illegal to keep Goliath. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
