Customer wants a 6ft 2 weight if I use an ultralight blank how do I determine fly line weight? Re: Fly line weight

Did he mention the distances he'll be fishing? This is a huge part of the puzzle for how to get a blank that will match his line weight. Remember, a 2-weight line is only a "2-weight" with 30 feet of it past the rod tip.

Why an ultra lite blank and not a fly rod blank? Re: Fly line weight

Check the CCS power number ERN for the intended blank, then use the same number fly line if planning to use it for casts of 30 feet or so. Go up if shorter casts, down if longer. Might take some experimenting. If you don't know the ERN it's just a crap shoot. Re: Fly line weight

Looking at the rod length he requested, I am going to assume he'll be fishing small streams. I'd look for a blank rated to cast about 1/8th ounce (middle of the range).
