1. What's the best way to clean winn grips? Soap and water?
2. What do you guys charge for replacing a guide? The one in question is a size 5 single foot. I'm thinking $15 is reasonable for a single foot, one thread color with 3 single trim bands. Thank you! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/15/2023 11:14AM by Daryl Ferguson. Re: Two Questions

If folks in your area will pay it, $15 is what you should charge. If you're including parts (guide, thread, finish, etc.) I suspect that's pretty reasonable in today's economy.

I would not do it for that little! However it can depend upon who you are doing for, a friend, acquaintance or other.
For the grip, mild soap and soft cloth. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/15/2023 12:12PM by Phil Erickson. Re: Two Questions

Think long term. Remember, he may become a regular customer if treated fairly. Rip him off you will never see him again.

Norm, do you think $15 is Fair? I think that's fair considering it includes everything. Tax, title, out the door price as they say... Re: Two Questions

That’s probably a fair price. However, I’m a hobby builder and don’t build for profit. As long as I get most of my money back, I’m happy. I’ve made a lot of friends (not money) over the years fixing and building rods. I do it because I enjoy it. Making a living as a rod builder would be a tough road to travel.

Figure out how much the guide is, then figure how long it will take, including the wrap finish. $15 in my opinion is a bit cheap. I typically charge around $25 per guide, total cost, unless they have an expensive brand guide on the rod in the first place.
I’m also with Phil on his questions, if it is someone I know, or folks that I regularly do repairs for, I shave off some $. Re: Two Questions

I believe $25.00 plus cost of guide is reasonable especially as it is not a simple one color wrap... Re: Two Questions

It takes what it takes and I never charged differently based on the price of the rod. But many people with $65 rods won't pay $25 for a guide replacement. I charged $5 plus the cost of the guide in 1990. That would be about $12 today, plus the cost of the guide. $15 seems reasonable to me.
In the end, you want to charge what the market will bear. I suspect you're getting ready to find out what that is ............... Re: Two Questions

I called a shop that's about 45 mins away after asking here (just happen to remember about them) and asked what they charge. They charge $12 plus tax so $13.08 per guide. I think I'm good with a flat $15. He'd waste more than $2.00 in gas to get to the other shop. Re: Two Questions
