I saw these a while ago, has anyone used these reels? They can be put on a spinning rod and the reels weight is under the rod. I poster picture

The more reel weight you get on the bottom of the rod the better off you are. But even with a reel on top, the lever arm effect of the guides will hold a reel on top even in your open palm. Yes, the effect is that strong.

Interesting concept. My biggest concern is how the angler would “thumb” or stop the spool? I must be missing something.

It would be for jigging and trolling, not casting. It would make the rod more stable any time there is very little load on it. Just like a spinning rod.

That may be true, Tom. Nonetheless, the angler needs to let the line drop when jigging or let the line out to the preferred wake behind the boat while trolling. In either case, this “under conventional reel” seems as though it would be quite awkward to use. I’ll stick with my typical conventional or spin reels. But a person cannot blame someone else for trying; at least they were thinking (how well is open for debate).

It’s another interesting option .

It has a brake trigger for dropping the lure.

Neat, but looks awkward.

I guess one can get used to anything.

Its a great concept. Anyone who has ever had the "pleasure" of fighting a large tuna, amberjack, grouper or halibut with a conventional level wind knows that trying to keep the reel level on top of the rod is quite difficult. The under mount allows less experienced and weaker fishermen to enjoy the process a little more.

That's very true. Which is why the spiral wrap is so beneficial. Even with a large reel on top, a spiral wrap will stabilize the reel upright. Of course, not everybody has or wants to buy a spiral wrapped rod so this type reel is a help for them. Good market niche I'd think.
