Just an open question for pros & cons of each? Ive heard great things about Flex Coat Ultra V and heard some similar reports on Gen 4. What is your use experience of both products?
Thanks very much! Cheers Craig Snapp Re: Flex Coat Ultra V finish vs Atlas Gen 4 finish

Most people who have tried Gen 4 think it clears bubbles better than others. It's maker also contends that it has better UV resistance to yellowing than others. Re: Flex Coat Ultra V finish vs Atlas Gen 4 finish

How's pot life / working time? And where do you get it? Re: Flex Coat Ultra V finish vs Atlas Gen 4 finish

I find Gen 4 yellows far less than many other brands and as mentioned bubbles clear easily.. Pot life is long enough for me to complete a 4pc fly rod. Re: Flex Coat Ultra V finish vs Atlas Gen 4 finish

Everybody is looking for the perfect epoxy and every time a new one comes along they get glowing reviews and people make the switch. Wait a year and another miracle epoxy will come along to replace the last miracle epoxy. They all work. I have tried many but always come back to Flex Coat. I figure there is a reason that nearly every commercial rod making operating in the U.S. uses it. It just works. Most problems people have with epoxy are more related to the user than the product. Agree with Mike B. Relative to pot life I think Gen 4 and Flex Coat are about the same, faster than Pro Coat which takes much longer to set than most others. Re: Flex Coat Ultra V finish vs Atlas Gen 4 finish

Generation 4 takes quite a long time to dry even when room temp is 70 + degrees . Threadmaster is one of the fastest to dry with Threadmaster lite taking considerably longer to dry similar to Generation 4 . Pro Coat is probably the slowest of all to dry.
I have no problem with any of the brands they all work extremely well if you follow the directions closely and apply in a temp appropriate room . Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
