It's better on a 1-piece rod, and it's also better on a 2-piece rod. In fact, the elimination of twisting forces helps the tip section stay seated correctly. On some guides-on-top multi-piece rods the tip section will twist out of alignment during use. Can't happen with the spiral wrap. I normally make mine so that the transition to the 180 degree guides happens before the ferrule. ........................... Re: spiral wrap. A further 'twist'

I've done a 3 piece 5'6" spiral wrapped bait caster rod. No problems, works fine. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
