Help me dream up this rod

I’m not a rod builder, just a guy looking for a certain type of rod, Here’s the story! People in England catch carp on “float rods” with “center pin reels.” The rods are strong enough for large carp and about 10-15 feet long. What does this equate to in the United States? I know that People in the North East do the same thing for steelhead but are those rods strong enough? Where I live the carp I would be catching are between 5-15 pounds and are in 2 feet of water close to shore. There is not much to catch where I live so setting the hook on an explosive carp under a tranquil float is exciting. What type rod would match this type of fishing?
Thanks for the help. Re: Help me dream up this rod

Do an internet search for "carp fishing rod" and you will find some info. Re: Help me dream up this rod

Herb can answer this question readily. As for me, I've caught a very large Chinook (King) Salmon on a 8 weight CTS fly rod. The blank could be built with casting, or spinning guides, and have the power to do the job. CTS also offers the Baycaster rods that are available in 10' lengths. CTS can also build the rod for you. Living on Lake Michigan, and being an avid steelhead fisherman in an epicenter of centerpin fishing for both steelhead and large Great Lakes carp, I will offer that you are on the right track in looking at float rods used for steelhead. Re: Help me dream up this rod

Thanks Robert.
Tim, Some of my CTS Customers had CTS design them 10'0' and 11'0" blanks for Steelhead. they paid serious $ to have this done - but the blanks are available to anyone now because the designs are on the CTS books. There are various lure ratings. Email me if you want more info. Herb CTS Re: Help me dream up this rod

Might want to upgrade in weight from a steelie rod to a heavier one. I have seen many center-pin guys break (on purpose) off on kings and big browns when using light leaders or light weight rods. They know that a 30lb king just might snap their light set ups. Gotta be merit for concern with a green king snapping their custom pin rod.
Have landed kings, steel and just about anything else that runs GL tribs. on 6-10 wts. 6 Erie- 8's and 10's peak Ontario. Always something to hear the pop of a rod and following cursing on the stream. Saw a guy with a 6wt. CTS going to work on the kings and watched in disbelief, handled em pretty well. I'm not a CTS guys, but was impressed. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
