Can someone please give me some advise on ways to make a black blank ( surf rod ) visable at night.
im in the procces of making this rod and was just thinking of painting the tip white but naturally this would peel or scatch off over time .
and secondly thank you all for the input into this sight i read it all the time but this is the first time ive posted a question.

Wet sand the blank with 600-800. Spray with a fast dry lacquer-Plasti-Kote-just the tip section you want. Then coat the blank with Permagloss

Buy some small cyalume sticks and scotch tape them to the tip. The flourescent paints that I have tried don't do well and will crack.

If you don't want to paint the blank , Maybe you could try doing your guide wraps in white or maybe a bright yellow. I've made some rods already that I put a white wrap at the tip and made it a little longer than usual, even though that wasn't the color of the guide wraps, so the tip of the rod could be seen better at night. The person that I made the rods for said it really helped out.

Gudebrod HT Braid - Orange glows in the dark. A wrap at the top will last a few hours at night. Shine your lantern on it and your recharged for a few more hours

lock
just another idea not really a reccomendation but Terminal Tackle in NY 631-269-3920 sells what they call an "Old Red-Eye" which operates on a hearing-aid type battery and the mount can be wrapped and epoxied to the opposite side of your line flow on the rod.
You can remove the light during the day if you wish and install it on the mount at night, it will switch on and off with a turn. They also sell a glow in the dark tape and latex tubing.
