I have a friend who wants a custom rod for shark fishing. He is looking for an 8 1/2'-9' heavy blank to fish a 50 wide with 100lb test line. I have looked around and am having difficulty finding such an animal. Any suggestions Re: Blank for shark fishing

Any suggestions How does he intend to fish? From a boat? From the beach? Stand Up? I fish for shark in stand up gear from a boat with a 50 Wide loaded with 80 lb test.....the rods are not 8 1/2-9ft though. Re: Blank for shark fishing

He fishes from shore. I would still think that length would be difficult unless he needs it for casting. I haven't sat down to discuss the build with him yet. We discussed briefly and he only had a minute to talk. I will know more after we discuss. I was just trying to get a jump on options for his request. Re: Blank for shark fishing

Mudhole used to have Gatorglass blanks that were long and specifically made for sharks. Re: Blank for shark fishing

Hey Danny. I would take a look at the AXBR8XXXH from American Tackle. I personally don't shark fish from shore anymore due to certain licenses and regulation but I know several acquaintances who have used these blanks exactly for this application. It sounds like your customer will need the length to position the rod over the breakers. With the proper reel seat that blank will pair up very nicely with a 50 wide reel. It is rated for 50-80 line but I know my guys are running 200lb top shot on these outfits with no problems. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/23/2021 10:16AM by Ancelmo Fernandez. Thank you for the suggestion Anceimo. I don't shark fish so that makes good sense. I will look into it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
