What is the best way to ream eva for a hidden thread sleeve. I keep losing it when I get it the max diameter and cant seem to find any process guides on how to do it successfully. Thanks Re: Hidden thread sleeve

Cut the hole to size and depth from a full size piece of eva, install the sleeve, than turn to shape. This gives you some slop protection and a bunch of added stability while you're working. Everything will turn down centered this way. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/01/2021 11:33AM by Spencer Phipps. Re: Hidden thread sleeve

Or, if you prefer - use a mandrel who's shape and size is identical to the location of where you are going to install the sleeve to get the tooling help that Spencer points out, but on a smaller lathe that is easier to use, control and shape the EVA.

By the way, if you don't own a lathe, and plan to stay in this vocation for some time - purchase a lathe. If you are going to do precise grip work it is "almost" a necessity to own, learn to use, and complete fabrication jobs on the lathe.
The cost of a lathe and accessories is paid back many many times over in the ability to create the work that gives you great satisfaction and perfection on builds. Take care Re: Hidden thread sleeve

Thanks for tips. I got a good one with a bigger eva and stepped up bit sizes to not get as much chunking in the middle that seemed to help a bunch. Finished it with a forstner bit on the lathe came out great. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
