Biulding a rod has been somthing I have been wanting to do for a while now. Getting ready to buy the crb hand wrapper. The rod I will be using is a ugly stick BWB-125 6.6 meadium heavy (20-40lb) . This rod was damaged a cople years ago and some eyes got messed up. I stripped every thing off the rod down to the bear fiberglass, except for the rod info I left that on there.
The reel I want to put on is a penn squall SQL16VS are similar. The base of the rod I think is close to 12.5 mm Looking at [www.mudhole.com] It showes different sizes Can any one suggest reel seat size and what size guides? and thinking about 8 guides in total Re: redoing a rod

You will be sizing the reel seat to fit the reel foot in this case, salt water reels have bigger reel feet than bass reels so you'll need a longer and wider reel seat to fit the reel on the rod, your supplier can help you with that. I've never handled a Penn Squall, but my Penn GTi320s haven't needed anything over a 16 mm butt guide with 8 mm running guides. I used 20 mm reel seats on my rods running those reels.
