I've always upped the tip top ring size by 0.5 when compared to the runners for spinning, but I was wondering if I should do the same for casting rods. Does it really matter if I put a 4.5 tip top to match the 4.5 runners? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/13/2020 04:24PM by David Lee. Re: Casting Rod Tip Top Size

I have been told tip size to fit your knots , to flow freely , that is what I go by William Sidney AK Re: Casting Rod Tip Top Size

Won't matter. The only time I've noticed a mismatch is when I put a much larger or smaller one on and the appearance caught my attention. Never noticed a performance difference. Re: Casting Rod Tip Top Size

I see no advantage to using a larger tip-top than any guides or guide following it. The limit to knot clearance will be whatever is the smallest guide on your rod, whether it be the tiptop or a subsequent guide.
