Well, finally registered! New rod builder and since March 1st of this year have finished 8. 5 spinning for grandkids, and 3 bait casting for son, redfish guide friend (point blank rod, nice!!) and 1 for myself. About to receive new 2 pc 6 wt fly rod and am looking for a reel, something to simply hold line really. This set up will be for panfish and bass to 3 lbs or so. Caught a 2 1/2 lb yesterday morning on my Bass Pro white river 6 wt I bought 15 years ago.
I'd like to upgrade the white river classic reel I have. Any suggestions? Re: fly reels

Lamson Liquid 7+. Is a very good deal at around $100. It has the same drag as their high end reels and goes great with 6, 7, or 8wt . They are also light. I have the older 3 pack 8wt I use on my 5wt rods, you get a body and 3 spools and a carry bag, at around $160. I take it when I travel to Patagonia or the Rockies because I can use different lines with different wt rods. Works great on a 5 wt because it does not weight that much and has a larger diameter spool.

Lance, TY! I was just looking at that reel!! The smoke color would look great with the slate blank and pewter reel hardware. Re: fly reels

I have some other older high end Lamsons also, and to me the Liquid is just as good. Really like the light weight of them. You will not be disappointed. Re: fly reels

A quality click drag and 100' of backing should be able to handle freshwater fish up to 10 or 12 pounds - in the hands of a capable fly-fisherman. I would guess that not one in 20 freshwater fly anglers ever fought a fish on a fly rod which took him into the backing. Re: fly reels

Purchased through Amazon and Fed Ex is saying they delivered on Apr 30, no got. Must wait until May 6 for it to either show up or reorder. Just got my blank in and have installed seat and grip. I've wanted to build rods for years and am really liking personalizing these for the kids. And me, tee hee.
And no, I'll never get into the reel backing. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/02/2020 06:04PM by Stan Vogel. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
