Reading all the comments of late regarding the quality of cork, I was wondering if anyone has tried Balsa wood or Bass wood as an alternative for making grips? Both of these woods are light weight and shape very easily. The only problem as I see it, is that both are relatively featureless and have little or no grain. Ed Re: Basswood and Balsa

Cork is made of closed cells, just like the foam. Balsa and other woods are too pourous and will soak up too much water and probably wouldnt last too long. You could put a stain and sealer on them if you really wanted to, but balsa doesnt "rebound" like cork does, do dets would be most liely permanent.
