Re: Point Blank vs NFC X-ray

Most newcomers to everything not just rod building, are quicker to rely on a message board or facebook post or a YT video that to do any real research or study into any real substance. Such is life more and more. Instant gratification and "Getirdone!" I think somebody in Tom's position with the magazine probably has to be very careful about how things are stated. You cannot force anybody to read it but at least nobody can come back and say that it was poorly written or expressed and caused them to misinterpret something. In some cases where injury could happen there could even be legal consequences.

I get your point, but all Tom's message did was say that there was a big difference and did not explain the difference. It would be of no help to a "newcomer." I stick to my opinion, and I'm sure you stick to yours. regards, Mick

Bend or deflect what the heck is the big difference. If you are bending a rod you are deflecting it. In my mind synonyms. When you hook a good fish does it put a good bend in the rod or a good deflection? Come on guys you make it seem like I don’t know what I’m talking about. I been doing this stuff for years and have gotten pretty good at it. Maybe the word bend is a southern redneck thing.

Norm,

Did you ever figure out if this is normal? Just received an nfc order and one of the blanks had the same issue. Part of the tape was kind of hanging out the end of the blank and I ran my finger over it a few times and it broke off splintering some graphite with it. Probably no concern as it was on the inside wall of the butt but it was a first for me.

Al,

Completely normal -

that "mesh" in the inside of the blank is a part of the release fabric for the pull tab, we usually get them with tweezers, but sometime they are persistent.

Enjoy your blank!

Aleks

Very interesting Aleks , so that means that any blanks that still have that at the butt end are not defective after all . Glad that's cleared up .

I never had a problem with the tape at the butt end of the X-ray blanks. They are very good blanks and make into excellent rods. I originally thought tape was a scrim material, but these blanks are advertised as scrim-less. So, I was confused. Thanks Aleks for the clarification, it’s nice to know what this tape was used for.
