Hi folks , i am trying to find out which carrier to go with for shipping a PVC rod tube that is slightly over 8 feet long . E bay allowed me to calculate cost for this and it came out to $138.00 to go from N.C to Texas . Re: Shipping cost for PVC tube 8 feet 4 inches long ? Carrier ?

I am trying to choose one since E Bay is asking me which carrier to choose but every carrier i choose shows a cost of approx $140.00 . I'm sure there are people who mail rods all the time and know which carrier would be the best deal Does $140.00 sound about right to all you custom builders out there when you mail a completed rod to a customer ? Thats what i'm asking . Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/01/2018 02:34PM by herb canter. Re: Shipping cost for PVC tube 8 feet 4 inches long ? Carrier ?

your being quoted over size rate as it is over 8 feet -96 inches that is the cut off point for most shippers.
it will cost a pretty good hunk to ship a tube over 8 foot 4inche = 100 inches THE KEY IS it is OVER 8 ft. what is the dia of the tube and total weight of the tube then go to USPS.com and plugin the zip codes and tube specs hit and calculate a price it will be that give or take a few bucks depending the shipper. did a quick calculation for you guessing on the cities and here is what came up with the length of 100 inches and a guess of 4 inches dia USPS.com home Postage Price Calculator Start Weight and Shape/Size Large Package Properties Mail Services Mail Services Large Package, weight 8 lb 0 oz (3.629 kg), mailed on February 1 from CAROLINA BEACH NC 28428 to SOUTH PADRE ISLAND TX 78597 USPS Retail Ground™ Select a Delivery Option Expected Delivery Day Retail Click-N-Ship® Normal Delivery Time Wed, Feb 7 $133.09 Not available Use the Service Commitment Lookup Tool for service commitments and for Priority Mail Express drop-off times and locations. I am confused about the weight though , E bay asks me the weight and i'm trying to figure out what a 4 " diameter PVC tube weighs at seven and a half feet in length . Over 4 pounds or under , any guesses ? Re: Shipping cost for PVC tube 8 feet 4 inches long ? Carrier ?

This makes me wonder why one-piece rods are so popular. I assumed they were bought by people who never flew or traveled with them or shipped them. The performance of the rod (rather than the reel) is foremost in fly fishing, unlike spinning or bait casting, yet fly anglers have a strong preference for 4-piece fly rods. The huge advances in the materials, design, and construction of multi-piece rods have made them the first choice for most anglers who travel or ship their tackle. Yeah, i don't get the one piece fascination myself , i would guess anybody who has had an early experience with a two piece when two piece rods and ferruling tech was much worse than it is today would retain those early thoughts and most likely not even give modern multi piece rods a try. The two piece rods that i am used to are exceptional performers and the sections fit together so well that once i put them together they don't move at all . St.Croix and CTS surf rods specifically . Herb,
I just ran the numbers of your shipment through my fedex account shipping manager. For 96 inches or 8 feet, the shipping cost is $29,. For 97 inches or 8 feet 1 inch the shipping cost is $159. So, yes you are correct, a heck of an up charge for over 8 feet. You might make some calls to see if there is a different way or method. Any way to reduce the length of the shipment to 96 inches? Good luck p.s. In past years, I have shipped 9 foot packages via Fed EX with out an excessive up-charge. You might check with them to see if and or when they have made the up charge change and if there are any exceptions. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 02/03/2018 09:04AM by roger wilson.
