What are the pros and cons of coated vs. Uncoated reel seats. I notice the Uncoated are about half the price. As you can probably tell we are newbies to the sport just took the mudhole class a couple of months ago. Re: Uncoated reel seats

The “comfort finish” reel seats has a rubber coated outer which does give a little more grip to it. Is it worth twice as much as the non coated that is up to the be holder. Re: Uncoated reel seats

From using both non coated and coated I found almost no difference at all except for show and you palm the reel anyways. Glenn McMurrian Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/24/2017 03:08AM by Glenn McMurrian. Re: Uncoated reel seats

The "pro" would be the little bit better grip the soft touch type reel seats give. The con would be the sensitivity you loose with that type of reel seat. It's definitely a matter or personal preference.
Myself, I choose my reel seats based on what the rod will be used for. If I'm building a rod that will be used with techniques where sensitivity plays a major role, I choose a completely different type of reel seat than I would if I were using techniques where sensitivity doesn't matter as much. I don't think I can tell the difference in sensitivity between comfort and regular. What I can tell, with one brand of spin seat comfort, is that it does not stay clean and bright like the regular. I don't know if it's deteriorating or what, but it's rough, looks bad, and in my opinion, not worth the cost. Other brands, on casting seats, the comfort is holding up fine and I like them. In my experience the coating peels off after about a year of use. Re: Uncoated reel seats
