I have a Batson Rainshadow Rod blank that simply snapped about 8 to 10 inches down from the tip of the blank just about where the transfer of power would be on a Fast action blank. The break is a very clean break with no splintering at all and has never been built on. The Rod was standing up in the corner of a wall being stored so is this a defective blank or just my falt as not like the blank was abused by laying on the wall.
Rainshadow 6.0 Heavy fast action Never fished or built on. Clean break with no splintering at all. Glenn McMurrian Re: RainShadow blank snapped

Wow ...... that's not good. Curious as to what series the blank is from? There was a member that posted about problems with a couple of blanks from the Immortal series breaking.
He had built on his, but from his description they broke rather easily. A bit troubling to read. Re: RainShadow blank snapped

How did it break, surely not just standing against the wall! Re: RainShadow blank snapped

Blanks can be damaged in all sorts of ways. Perhaps it was damaged in shipping.
The people at Batson are not going to leave you hanging. They have a very loyal customer base for good reason. Give them a call. .............. Re: RainShadow blank snapped

Phil it was in a group of five blanks that where leaning in the corner of the room and as it was being removed it snapped in such a clean way as if it was cut off With no splintering at all. This was a Heavy fast action blank so there is no way that it should have ever broke like that in the first place without some kind of defect in the blank. I had a new eternity2 5wt fly rod snap when joining the sections together before I even built it.
it snapped in the middle 4.5' down a 9' blank, but I was shocked as it broke with miniscule force just inserting sections together. It was a defective blank as I had also shipped an 8wt with it, and that showed no signs of damage in transit. Batson were very good at getting me a replacement, though it still cost me extra to return the blank. I haven't build the replacement yet, but I hope it's better.
