Recently the ceramic insert from an SV style spinning guide (size 30) popped out and was lost. Can one simply snip the frame on a loose guide releasing the insert, then pop the insert into the mounted frame? I'd hate to have to redo the wraps on this one...
Thanks! Re: replacing a pooped out seramic insert

IF the two guides are IDENTICAL you may get away with it. how it got popped out may affect longevity of repair. Re: replacing a pooped out seramic insert

I would cut the broken guide off and replace with the new guide. If you have a fancy under wrap you do not want to redo, just carefully cut the threads on the guide foot to remove the over wrap. Clean it up, lightly scuff up the old finish and rewrap the new guide in place. With a new coat of finish will never know the guide was replaced. Removing a ceramic guide from a perfectly good guide and putting it into a broken guide is not something I would do or trust to hold up.

I would say - try to figure out -- WHY IT CAME OUT - Cheep guide - did you bend the frame ??
Of corse do do that again LOL Bill - willierods.com Re: replacing a pooped out seramic insert

I would just replace the guide. However, was wondering on the new guide, how were you going to cut the frame which is buried into the ring on both sides without doing any damage to the ceramic . I don't see this as reliable repair
