So I bought two cans of SprayMax for some rods. I have three at home that need clear. I also intend to make another for my widea, and paint the top half of a two pc. blank to replace one I crushed by mistake.
The three at home are two 6 1/2' fresh and a 7' heavy salt rod. Should I go ahead and clear these three or just wait until I have the other rod and tip section and do all 4 1/2 blanks at once? Not sure how far the can will stretch. I have two cans of SprayMax, but if one will do, I'd rather not waste another $20 unnecessarily. Re: SprayMax coverage

I'd wait. Their web site says that once activated, the pot life is 48 hours @ 68 degrees. I'm not sure how far one can will go, but no need to break out the second can if you don't have to. Re: SprayMax coverage

One can will paint a lot of blanks, but as Jay mentioned, once activated you have a maximum amount of time at which the stuff will set up in the can.

I have a bicycle stand that clamps around the top tubes of a bike. I used it for painting the rods. Just taped up the handle and grip area and clamped it loosely so I could roatate it. For two piece rods I just use a tomato cage upside down. Re: SprayMax coverage

I tape a thin metal bent as a hook to hang onto the butt of the rod Take the rod out side hold with one hand as I spray with the other Bill - willierods.com Re: SprayMax coverage

Trying to picture in my mind what you are describing with no luck. Plus with 7 foot rods, could get a little tricky. The bike stand holds it horizontally. The only difficulty is I have to take a couple steps as I paint down the blank. This makes it a bit more difficult to get an even flow.
On a separate note, I purchased my other two blanks today, so hopefully I can get them before next weekend and get them painted. Then I'll have them ready for all 5ish blanks to get clear coat the following weekend. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
