Fly rod guide/ferrule input needed

I have a rodgeeks 908-4 blank on hand, and the the rodgeek/st croix spacing charts show the guides being placed below the ferrule intersection, on the male ferrule, on both the first and section intersection from the tip. However, if you look at st croixs rods, they (and most other manufacturers) place their guide on the end of the female ferrule, where your ferrule wrap would be.
Was just wondering on what the general consensus was in placing a guide either above or below a ferrule intersection. I know it's been asked plenty before but it's hard to decide to either do ask they say or as they actually do. Re: Fly rod guide/ferrule input needed

I am not sure but the part that goes in ?? you should always have it on the guide on the out side of the ferrule , not on the part that goes in ,

Yup, if close put it on the female side and combine the ferrule reinforcement with the guide wrap. Spacing is not that critical, so if you have to move things a little, no problem. Re: Fly rod guide/ferrule input needed

Do as the blank "tells" you to do using a static load test. Phil makes a good point that if the optimum position is on the ferrule then opt for the female ferrule. Regardless of all the charts, etc. it is the static load test that is the final determining test for guide location. You might also try adding one additional guide, repeating the load test, and see if a guide locations relative to the ferrules move a bit (they will but how much is the question).
