Roller guide tip for spinning rods

I rebuilt a heavy-duty boat rod for a friend and put a Stewart Large Head Roller top on the tip. Now that it's all assembled, tI noticed that the roller guide is positioned for a rod with the guides on top rather than the guides below the rod as used in a Spinning Reel configuration. This guide is designed to disassemble for maintenance etc. so I swapped the spacer guide and the roller guide hoping that would do the trick. Unfortunately, when I reassembled it, the roller guide binds one the frame and won't turn. Any ideas how I can solve this problem? (hopefully without having to remove/replace the guide from the rod) Thanks for any insights or ideas you can share.

Maybe consider using a @#$%& spiral roller tip top? Re: Roller guide tip for spinning rods

All American Guides spiral designed tip top to the left is the only fix I know of, as I believe Jerry mentioned above. Re: Roller guide tip for spinning rods

Jerry/all, Thank you for your help. It is very much appreciated. I've only built a handful of rods, mainly flyrods (no heavy-duty SW rods) and even then, it's been a number of years since I built my last rod. As much as I hate to do it, I will have to remove the tip and replace it with a spiral tip. Thank you, Jerry and thank you Tom (as always) for having such a terrific resource for rodbuilders.

For casting, spinning reels have advantages over conventional reels. For trolling or jigging, conventional reels have advantages over spinning reels. I wonder how a roller tip-top would affect a spin rod's casting ability? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
