I have a fellow interested in having 2 trolling rods built and he would like Winn grips on them. Any clue as to how they would hold up in Rod Holders 90% of the time in that application? Or would EVA be a better choice? Thanks Jay Re: WINN Grips and Rod Holders?

Never used Winn grips on trolling rods. If I was asked to build rods for trolling with Winn grips I would recommend using for the fore grips and using harder material for the butt end. Sometimes a soft butt grip will lock the rod in the rod holder when a large fish is on the line. My $0.02. Good luck. MH Re: WINN Grips and Rod Holders?

Write Winn and ask them. At our Michigan Rod Builders gathering last April Winn showed a number of trolling rods which had their grips. They were done by experienced muskie fishermen, so it would seem logical that they think they are OK.
But I would ask. Winn has a very responsive support operation. Re: WINN Grips and Rod Holders?

Sorry I should have been more clear, No Saltwater. These would be personal rods, Not charter rods, For michigan, Big lake, and inland lake, and Drowned river mouths on the west side of the state, Walleye trolling with smaller 20 size line counter reels, Pulling minnow-crank baits and crawler harnesses . If muskie trolling guys are using them I would think they would be fine, I suggested a carbon fiber tube butts, Or burl cork, But he doesn't want a hard grip in cold weather as in {carbon tube} That was a Straight Up No. He's up in the air about burl cork, But I think that's the way I'm going to try to steer him, As I think they would last longer than Winn grips? Ultimately it's his call. Re: WINN Grips and Rod Holders?

Winns are coated EVA. If they have a problem it will be between the EVA and the skin. Write Winns. Go with someone who knows all about Winn grips. Re: WINN Grips and Rod Holders?

Burl cork is tough and rubberized cork is even tougher. Of course both of these are a lot heavier than standard cork or EVA.
